The Financial Planning Process

The Financial Planning Process for Clients

Step 1 - Preliminary Introduction - Prospective Client

Call or email our office and request a “CONFIDENTIAL Preparation Questionnaire” and your information packet.  We will also schedule a CONFIDENTIAL appointment to discuss your situation.

Step 2 – Introductory Appointment - Prospective Client & Planner

Introduce ourselves, discuss your situation, and determine if our services might be a good fit for you. In this appointment, we strive to provide you with meaningful information designed to help you with your situation and answer your questions about financial matters. If there is a fit between our experience and your situation, we will schedule a time to meet to begin the planning process.

Step 3 – Preparation - Prospective Client

If you decide to proceed with the planning process and become a client, you will receive a "Financial Checklist", and other documents for you to prepare prior to our next appointment. These documents will need to be prepared thoroughly and in advance, so be sure you allow time to think them through.

Step 4 - Fact Gathering/Goal Setting Appointment –  Client and Planner

Discuss your current life circumstances as they relate to your divorce, family, career, benefits, finances, and aspirations for the future. Upon careful review of the documents you have gathered and prepared, we will set some goals. This is a most enjoyable meeting as it gives us the opportunity to get to know each other better and make plans for your future.

Step 5 - Financial Analysis and Strategic Plan Design – Planner and Staff

Using sophisticated software and modeling tools, your planner will analyze your situation and prepare recommendations for your review. We many also utilize the expertise of CPA’s and estate attorneys if your situation warrants.

Step 6 - Presentation of Financial Strategy - Client and Planner

In this appointment we will review the analysis and make specific recommendations on steps you can take to achieve your goals. You will receive an action plan so that you can get started right away. We will set up our next appointment at this time. Note: there may be additional appointments to review and edit strategies.

Step 7 - Plan Implementation – Client and Planner

This is where we will re-visit our recommendations and get started incorporating your action plan into your life. There will be a lot of paperwork to complete.

Step 8 - Periodic Plan Review – Client & Planner Annually or as needed
Track you progress towards your goals, discuss changes in your life and review your overall financial situation, making adjustments as necessary.

Special note to divorce attorneys, mediators and counselors: We encourage you to call our office with your client's name and mailing address so that we can send out our Divorce Planning Packet.  We will not contact your client unless specifically asked to do so.
